Necessary Fiction Review

In Uncategorized on January 24, 2012 at 4:01 am

Necessary Fiction.

Whenever I start to think that the reviews of or notices of The Mimic’s Own Voice are about to cease, something like this comes along. What’s intriguing to me is that   I’m starting to notice trends, one of which is that more commentary is emerging about the first person narrator–whom I become more and more intrigued with all the time.

More than anything, though, these reviews remind me I need to get back to doing more reviewing myself.

And please check out Necessary Fiction. Apart from good taste in novellas, theirs is a truly intriguing enterprise.

New story out soon: “The Hotel Joseph Conrad” in Jelly Bucket

Scroll down a ways on this site to see my name listed among the contributors’ for the next issue of Jelly Bucket.

I’m really pleased that this story found its way into print. It’s a curiosity, in many ways, for me. What started it off, for a change, was a title: “The Hotel Joseph Conrad.” Ordinarily, I’m a first line guy. I need to hear that first line before I can start the story. This time I just kept hearing that phrase and knew it was a title. What was the story, though?

As well, this was a story that my wife, Carmen, aided me immeasurably with. She told me that I had to make my narrator even crazier than I had. So I tried, and I think I got closer.

I look forward to when this issue of Jelly Bucket comes out and hope that anyone who reads it might have as much fun reading it as I did writing it.

Mixed Chicks Chat – Live & Recorded Episodes:.

I sat down yesterday, in my basement, to talk over the phone with Heidi Durrow and Fanshen Cox, who together comprise two thirds of the Mixed Chicks, hosts of the only weekly podcast devoted to the mixed experience. It was a great experience, though I feared constantly my phone would die or the call would drop or some other minor malfunction would occur. It’s possible to now listen to the recorded version. I tried to listen but the sound of my own voice is never pleasing. I can assure anyone interested that one can hear me okay.

Now, the question is, did I make sense? Did I sound at all like I knew what I was talking about?

I like to think that since the subjects were me and my book, I had some decent things to say. I hope some of you might listen and tell me just what I said, though.

And if for some strange reason you don’t have a copy of The Mimic’s Own Voice, and your appetite for it has been whetted by my sparkling personality and charm displayed on this thirty minute interview, by all means visit the good folks at Main Street Rag Publishing Company: http://mainstreetrag.com/
